What will happen during my initial consultation?

Your initial consultation will be with Dr van der Rijt.  He will listen to your concerns and expectations, take your medical history and examine you.  Clinical photographs may also be taken during this appointment with your consent.

Dr van der Rijt will outline the various surgical and non-surgical options suitable for you and tailor a management plan specifically for you.  He will also inform you of the potential risks and complications of a procedure, and you will have time to have all of your questions answered.

Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time, as there will be paperwork to complete before you see Dr van der Rijt.

Please bring the following to your initial appointment: 

  • A valid referral from your GP

  • Your Medicare Card

  • Private Health Insurance details

  • Relevant blood results, imaging scans & diagnostic investigations.

Fees & Payments

If surgery is required, you will also receive a quotation outlining expected costs.

Cancellation Policy

Do I need a referral to see Dr van der Rijt?

An up-to-date referral from your general practitioner is required for your appointment with Dr van der Rijt.

Do I need to pay for my consultation at the time of my appointment?

Payment for the consultation will be taken at the time of your appointment.

Does Dr van der Rijt follow up with me after my surgery?

If surgery is required, post-operative reviews will be scheduled with Dr van der Rijt to monitor your progress.

Will my health insurance cover my consultation or any surgery

At the time of your consultation, you will be given a detailed quotation for your procedure that will include the surgeon’s fee, anaesthetist’s fee, surgical assistant fees and the hospital’s fees.  

Please consult your health insurance provider to ensure that you have adequate coverage for your procedure.

Most cosmetic procedures are not covered by Medicare and as a result you are unlikely to receive a rebate or subsidy for these procedures.

Does Dr van der Rijt treat children?

Dr van der Rijt treats both paediatric and adult patients. As a father of three young children, he caters towards families and particularly enjoys working with children.
